2001-07-12: Matt DeBergalis is now the NetBSD/next68k port maintainer
Matt DeBergalis, <deberg@NetBSD.org>, has volunteered to take on the role of NetBSD/next68k port maintainer.

Leaving the position of next68k port maintainer, due to time constraints, is Darrin B. Jewell. Darrin will still be contributing to the next68k port by fixing bugs and answering questions on the mailing lists, among other projects.

2001-07-11: NetBSD 1.5.1 released
NetBSD 1.5.1 released with support for 21 architectures. More information is available in the 1.5.1 release announcement.

2001-05-12: NetBSD/next68k switches to ELF
Chuck Silvers has committed changes to convert the NetBSD/next68k port to ELF. With the COMPAT_AOUT_M68K kernel option, all your old a.out binaries should still work. Note that a.out versions of ifconfig(8) and route(8) will not work due to some structure alignment problems.

No full NetBSD/next68k ELF snapshot has been made available yet, but you can grab the NetBSD/sun3 ELF snapshot at:

ftp://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/sun3/snapshot/

The NetBSD/sun3 ELF snapshot will do fine for userland, and Chuck has put a NetBSD/next68k ELF kernel and boot program at:

ftp://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/next68k/ELF/

2001-04-14: 1.5.1_BETA snapshot available
A NetBSD/next68k 1.5.1_BETA snapshot, based off of 1.5.1 sources as of 2001-04-06, is now available in the NetBSD/next68k snapshot area of the ftp server. (snapshot deprecated. NetBSD 1.5.1 was released on July 11th, 2001)

2000-12-27: NetBSD/next68k SCSI support update
Darrin B. Jewell has spent some time reviving the SCSI effort for NetBSD/next68k. At this point, he's using a SCSI mounted root partition and things seem to be working. Both diffs relative to the netbsd-1-5-RELEASE tree and a GENERIC kernel with scsi enabled are available for download. More information is available in Darrin's message in the port-next68k mail archive.

2000-12-06: NetBSD 1.5 released

2000-11-25: NetBSD 1.4.3 released

2000-11-15: 1.5_BETA2 snapshot
A NetBSD/next68k 1.5_BETA2 snapshot is now available in the NetBSD/next68k snapshot area of the ftp server. (snapshot deprecated. NetBSD 1.5 was released on December 6th, 2000)

2000-10-24: Color support.
The nextdisplay console driver now supports non-turbo color machines.

2000-07-20: First 1.4.3_ALPHA snapshot
The first next68k 1.4.3_ALPHA snapshot, based off of 1.4.3 sources as of 2000-07-13, is now available in the NetBSD/next68k snapshot area of the ftp server. (snapshot deprecated. NetBSD 1.4.3 was released on November 25th, 2000)

Over 600 MB of binary packages are now available for NetBSD/next68k 1.4.2.

1999-05-12: NetBSD-1.4 released
The NetBSD 1.4 release supports sixteen architectures, and was distributed free by Usenix to all 1999 ATC attendees.

1999-05-10: 1.4 binaries
next68k binaries are now available, including new 1.4 installation documentation.

1999-03-24: Video and keyboard support
Console video and keyboard support developed by Matt DeBergalis is now working on mono machines.
